Guidelines for Preparing and Formatting Manuscripts

The Kateb Journal of Medical Sciences and Biotechnology publishes original scientific research articles, review articles, case reports, and other valuable scholarly works in the fields of medical sciences, biotechnology, and related disciplines.

The aim of the journal is to advance knowledge in the fields of medical sciences and biotechnology, improve the quality of scientific research, and provide scientific solutions to health-related challenges, particularly in Afghanistan, through the publication of original and innovative research.

  1. General Requirements for Manuscripts
  • The manuscript must be based on original research and must not have been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal.
  • The manuscript must be prepared in accordance with research ethics, academic integrity, and intellectual property principles.
  • Manuscripts may be submitted in Persian (Dari), Pashto, or English.
  • The length of the manuscript, including tables, figures, and references, should be between 2,000 and 7,500 words.
  • The manuscript must be prepared according to the journal’s template and submitted in Microsoft Word format (DOCX).
  • The authors’ declaration form, conflict of interest statement, and other required submission forms must be completed and submitted along with the manuscript.
  • Authors are fully responsible for the scientific, ethical, and legal content of their manuscripts.

A scientific research article should include the following sections:

  2. Author Information
  3. Abstract
  4. Keywords
  5. Introduction
  6. Literature Review and Background (where applicable)
  7. Research Methods
  8. Results
  9. Discussion and Conclusion
  10. References

Title

The title should be concise, precise, scientific, and representative of the main subject of the research. Authors should avoid using ambiguous terms and unnecessary abbreviations. An English title is required for manuscripts submitted in Persian (Dari) and Pashto.

Author Information

The full names of authors, institutional affiliations, academic rank (if applicable), city, country, email addresses, ORCID IDs, and the corresponding author’s information must be provided.

For manuscripts submitted in Persian (Dari) and Pashto, author information must also be provided in English.

Abstract

The abstract should contain 200–250 words and include the research objective, methodology, main findings, and conclusion.

References, tables, and figures should not be included in the abstract.

An English abstract is mandatory for manuscripts submitted in Persian (Dari) and Pashto.

Keywords

Authors should provide 5–7 specialized keywords that represent the main concepts of the manuscript. English equivalents of the keywords must also be provided.

Introduction

The introduction should clearly explain the importance of the research topic, statement of the problem, research objectives, research questions or hypotheses, and the necessity of conducting the study.

Literature Review

Where appropriate, this section should include a critical review of previous studies, theoretical foundations, and identification of the research gap.

Research Methods

The methodology section should clearly describe the type of study, target population and sample, sampling method, data collection instruments, data analysis methods, ethical considerations, and ethics committee approval number (where applicable).

Results

The findings should be presented in an organized, documented, and objective manner consistent with the research objectives.

Quantitative studies should use appropriate tables and figures, while qualitative studies should present sufficient themes, categories, or supporting evidence.

Discussion and Conclusion

The findings should be interpreted and compared with previous studies. Research limitations should be acknowledged, and the main conclusions, research contributions, and practical and future research recommendations should be presented.

No new findings should be introduced in this section.

References

Only sources cited within the manuscript should be included in the reference list, following the Vancouver citation style.

  1. Formatting Requirements
  • All tables, figures, images, and charts must have appropriate numbering, titles, and sufficient quality.
  • Images and charts should be provided in editable formats whenever possible.
  • Equations should be prepared using Microsoft Equation Editor and numbered appropriately.
  1. Research Ethics
  • Authors are responsible for the originality of the manuscript and the accuracy and integrity of the reported data.
  • Any form of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification or manipulation of data, duplicate publication, or simultaneous submission of manuscripts will result in rejection of the manuscript.
  • Authors must properly cite all sources and disclose any conflicts of interest.
  • Research involving human participants or animals must comply with ethical research principles and obtain approval from the relevant ethics committee.
  • The journal reserves the right to conduct similarity checks and make necessary formatting and language corrections without altering the scientific content of the manuscript.

Full compliance with these guidelines is required for a manuscript to enter the evaluation and peer-review process.
